Eleksen's smart fabric controls bring hands-free electronic controls for cell phones and iPods to clothing line

-Eleksen Group plc. (AIM:ELG.L), the world’s leading provider of touch-sensitive smart fabrics for consumer electronics in apparel and accessories, today announced that sporting goods retailer City Sports will carry a new line of iPod-enabled apparel using Eleksen’s ElekTex® technology. Consumers can enjoy their music in style with this novel merging of technology and fashion.

City Sports, an award winning retailer for the metropolitan athlete, has 15 stores on the East Coast, including Boston, Providence, New York, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Baltimore and Atlanta. The stores will carry a line of men’s and women’s performance outdoor apparel featuring Eleksen’s Made-for-iPod controller. The Made-for-iPod apparel will join the City Sports private label line CS and will arrive in stores mid October.

“We are thrilled to be joining forces with Eleksen to create a line of iPod enabled jackets,” said Jeff Connor, Chief Merchandise Officer of City Sports. “The interactive apparel market is thriving and is only expected to grow; this is a great time for City Sports to integrate an innovative technology like ElekTex into our apparel.”

Each jacket uses Eleksen’s smart fabric technology that has been integrated into the sleeves as iPod control pads. This allows wearers complete control of the iPod, including On/Off, play, pause, track changes and volume, from their sleeve, while keeping the device safely tucked away in their pocket. The durable, stylish jackets are water resistant, and come in three styles for both men and women.

“City Sports customers appreciate the latest athletic wear styles and features,” said Robin Shephard, CEO of Eleksen. “These new designs are particularly appealing, as they not only offer handy features for runners and other athletes to enjoy their music but help to protect the iPod from wear and tear.”

The jackets are machine washable, require no batteries, and are completely self-powered and customer friendly. Visit one of the City Sports Stores for additional details.

The Premier Inc. healthcare alliance and the Wye River Group on Healthcare (WRGH) have launched a Web site that will host a repository of best practices based on successful community-based health initiatives from across the nation.

Leading Healthy Communities (LHC - www.leadinghealthycommunities.com) will feature case studies drawn from both the WRGH and Premier. These examples of proven community collaboratives will enable community leaders to benchmark against one another to achieve successes within their communities.

“Many communities have successfully executed initiatives that address issues of access, quality, cost, disparities and a host of other issues,” said Richard A. Norling, president and CEO at Premier. “Leading Healthy Communities will allow community and not-for-profit program leaders around the country, as well as novice representatives of a community, to find information and solutions on how to improve their own areas.”

WRGH studies come from a published report titled, “Communities Shaping a Vision for America’s 21st Century Health and Healthcare” (see www.wrgh.org). Premier studies were created from award winning programs recognized by Premier’s Monroe E. Trout Premier Cares Award, providing $2.75 million in funding to 90 community organizations nationwide since 1992. The award recognizes six not-for-profit organizations each year that have found creative ways to improve the health of medically underserved communities.

"Leading Healthy Communities is a unique resource that brings together, in one place, some of the nation's best practices in healthcare,” said Jon Comola, CEO of the Wye River Group on Healthcare and the Foundation for American Health Care Leadership. “As the breadth and depth of information continues to grow, the site will truly offer communities a one-stop source of reliable information on how to improve the health of their communities."

LHC features a community action guide, offering easy access to templates, surveys and assessment tools, as well as links to funding and professional expertise, to help make collaborative efforts successful.

The Web site also features a Kids Action section, where kids can easily find out how to become leaders and make a difference in the health of their communities. Kids Action provides a step-by-step guide for children and young adults to get involved in positively impacting the health of people in their community. In addition to explaining how to get started, organize others to join, and devise a plan, the guide provides online resources and connections to outside experts.

WRGH and Premier are currently seeking strategic partners to help spread awareness of the site and success of these local initiatives, as well as feedback from those who visit the site.

“In our continuous efforts to assist communities in achieving positive results, we are always looking for organizations to add their stories to LHC, and we value any feedback or suggestions that visitors might have regarding the Web site and its usefulness,” Comola said.

Clearwire Connects Customers Instantly to the Internet with its Simple to Use and Portable Technology

Clearwire España S.A. (www.clearwire.es) today announced its first entry into Spain with the launch of its Instant Internet (Instanet) service in Seville. The Andalusian capital is the first market in Spain to launch Clearwire’s (NASDAQ:CLWR) wireless Internet service providing an alternative to the traditional fixed ADSL and cable-based networks.

Clearwire connects customers using a non-line-of-sight wireless broadband network technology. Radio signals using a secure or licensed spectrum are transmitted from a tower to a small, wireless modem which easily connects a user’s computer to the Internet. There is no software to download and generally no configuring or changes required to the customer’s computer. Customers can be on the Internet within minutes of set-up.

Instanet offers users a reliable, instant, fast and simple Internet connection with the added ability to take it anywhere in Clearwire’s coverage area whether it’s at home, the office or the local coffee house. Clearwire’s network in Seville covers more than 300,000 households.

“Seville’s receptiveness to new technologies, and as the social and cultural nucleus in the south of the Peninsula made it an ideal first market for Clearwire’s entry into Spain,” said Gilberto Sanchez, Clearwire Espana general manager. “The more than 850,000 residents of Seville now have a better way to access the Internet immediately without the hassles or delays of traditional ADSL services. In addition, our customer care service operation is based in Seville to provide that high-touch customer experience.”

“We continue to successfully expand our global footprint and are excited to offer our simple to use, instant, reliable and portable wireless broadband service in Spain,” said Perry Satterlee, Clearwire chief operating officer and president. “Spain is the third country where we have launched service in Europe and together with our networks in Ireland and Belgium, Clearwire now covers more than 2.2 million people.”

Customers can sign up for Clearwire’s Instant Internet service at Airesur, Los Arcos, Nervion and Metromar shopping centers as well as with authorized retailers in Seville or by calling locally at 1422. For more information go to www.clearwire.es.

About Clearwire Corporation

Clearwire, founded in October 2003 by telecom pioneer Craig O. McCaw, is a provider of simple, fast, portable and reliable wireless high-speed Internet service. Clearwire customers connect to the Internet using licensed spectrum, thus eliminating the confines of traditional cable or phone lines. Headquartered in Kirkland, Wash., the company launched its first market in August 2004 and now offers service in 16 states across the U.S. as well as in Europe and Mexico. NeXplore Corporation (OTC:NXPC), today announced that World Discount Telecommunications (WDT), a global provider of discount local, long-distance and international landline and wireless calling services, located in Dallas, Texas, will be among the first large-enterprise customers to run a rich-media interactive advertising campaign on NeXplore Search, an innovative search engine optimized for a superior end-user experience and the delivery of highly targeted search, display and rich-media ads. NeXplore Search private beta launch is slated for later this month.

Under the terms of the multi-year agreement, NeXplore will serve up to as many as 400,000 targeted WDT advertising impressions per month on NeXplore Search and other NeXplore web destinations, including MyCircle.com, a universally accessible, application-agnostic social computing platform providing users with a single, highly customizable interface for managing every facet of their online activity; and a cool new web destination, as yet unnamed, offering music contests and providing musicians with viral tools for promoting their work and staying in tune with their fans. The music site is scheduled to go live during Q4 2007. MyCircle is scheduled to go live in Q1 2008.

“Attracting new customers in today’s increasingly cluttered, hyper-competitive telecommunications industry demands unique and affordable services that get right to the heart of what consumers need and a fanatical devotion to customer service. Our laser-like focus on these principles is how WDT reached the 100,000-customer milestone in record time,” said Irene Mazur, senior vice president of marketing for World Discount Telecommunications.

Mazur added: “Search engines are central to web marketing. They are the first stop for consumers looking for information. But the cost of advertising with the traditional engines is skyrocketing, ad formats are limited, and the current crop of campaign management and reporting tools is sketchy at best. Pay per click is great, but we’re just as interested in post-click conversion and building our brand with engaging, memorable impressions. The NeXplore Ad platform makes campaign creation and management a breeze. The ability to launch a creative and strategic blend of sponsored links, traditional banners and interactive rich-media ads is a definite plus. We are confident our partnership with NeXplore will help take WDT to the next level.”

“NeXplore is committed to developing next-generation products and services that bring significant value and return on investment to our advertisers. Improving conversion rates, delivering quality brand impressions, and the ability to easily track, measure, and analyze campaigns is the foundation upon which we built our patent-pending NeXplore Ad platform. Intelligently placed rich-media interactive advertising that is engaging but not intrusive is the cornerstone of our services,” said Scott Grizzle, chief marketing officer of NeXplore Corporation. “We are extremely pleased with our partnership with World Discount Telecommunications and glad to be able to contribute to the marketing and growth strategies of this exciting and innovative company.” Grizzle added: “While we are thrilled to land an advertising deal of this magnitude, and we certainly hope to win more brand advertisers in the future, it is important to note that NeXplore Search is also designed to capitalize on the long tail of search. Our ad platform makes it a cinch for businesses of all sizes – from multi-nationals to mom-and-pop operations to reach targeted customers.”

August 2007 release of AnnuityNet Platform contains new support for subsequent premium payments for annuities

Finetre – a division of Ebix, Inc. (NASDAQ:EBIX) – today announced new automated support for annuities transacted on the firm’s AnnuityNet Platform.

Finetre provides Web-based annuity and life insurance automation platforms known as AnnuityNet and LifeSpeed. The platforms operate under a SaaS (Software as a Service) business model and enable annuity and life insurance distributors to automate the processing of annuity and life insurance transactions.

In many cases, the purchase of an annuity is followed by subsequent payments of premium, known as subpays. In addition to client-specific enhancements, the August 2007 release of AnnuityNet contains new support features that improve the efficiency of processing subpay transactions.

AnnuityNet includes a software wizard that guides the user through subpay administration features. With the August release, the subpay wizard now includes a 1035 Insurance Exchange feature, commonly known as a “replacement,” that recognizes payment assets made available through the liquidation of another investment vehicle. New functionality incorporated into the wizard business rules supports subpay transaction availability, fund availability, and premium allocation availability by contract and issue by state for all 50 US states.

The August 2007 release of AnnuityNet entered live production status on August 20th for all of Finetre’s annuity client base, including major US wirehouse broker/dealers, clearing firms, and insurance carriers. Finetre reported that there were no major issues negatively impacting clients’ ability to process same-day annuity transactions.

“The new subpay features on AnnuityNet were in high demand from our clients and demonstrate Finetre’s commitment to continuous enhancement of our product,” said Steve Dunlap, president of Finetre. “We have exhibited remarkable consistency over the last couple of years, and great leaps forward in total development capacity since our acquisition by Ebix last year. We plan to continue our steady stream of new and expanded functionality, adding additional value for our existing clients, even as we implement and launch the collection of recently signed new clients.”

Micron Technology, Inc., Nokia, Samsung Electronics, Sony Ericsson, Spansion Inc., STMicroelectronics, and Texas Instruments announced today that they support the creation of a far-ranging industry specification for removable memory cards and embedded memory solutions being standardized by the JEDEC Solid State Technology Association (JEDEC), a leading open-standards organization in the semiconductor industry. JEDEC is well known for its expertise in the standardization of component technologies and solutions.

The new specification, dubbed Universal Flash Storage (UFS), reflects the industry’s need for a universal memory solution. Widespread demand for higher densities and higher performance, plus the surging popularity of multimedia content, is accelerating the need for advanced memory solutions in removable card or embedded formats. UFS will provide a revolutionary leap towards supporting very low access times required for memories, as well as enabling high-speed access to large multimedia files, while reducing power-consumption in consumer electronic (CE) devices. The target performance level is expected to be a significant advancement beyond that of the varied flash cards popular today. Today, users experience a three-minute access time for a 90-minute (4 Gigabyte) high-definition movie; with the new standard, this would be reduced to a few seconds.

Major applications such as mobile handsets, digital still cameras and other CE devices will benefit from the convenience of a universal open standard based specification that is intended to reduce the time-consuming process of enabling interoperability among the various types of removable and embedded memory solutions at the system level. UFS is planned to provide consumers in the future with the convenience of a unified removable memory card that can be shared among various mobile, portable and other CE devices without the need for any adaptors.

The UFS standard is expected to be finalized in 2009.

Micron Technology

“Universal standards hold a pivotal role in the development of more cost-efficient and better designed products. Standardization of flash-based technologies will be crucial in determining how fast storage devices will be able to fully support industry demand for higher densities and faster transmission speeds,” said Frankie Roohparver, vice president of NAND development for Micron Technology.

Nokia

“Nokia will actively participate in the development of the UFS specification, which aims to provide future mobile devices with high performance and flexibility. This collaborative UFS effort will provide the industry with an open standard mass memory solution with optimal performance and interoperability,” said Seppo Lamberg, Senior Vice President, Technology Platforms, Nokia.

Samsung Electronics

“The proposed UFS specification is good news for card manufacturers and set designers alike. The proliferating use of flash memory as a storage medium underscores the importance of introducing a universal connectivity solution for memory cards, where high performance and reliability are critical,” said Jon Kang, president, Samsung Semiconductor, Inc.

“Samsung’s Mobile handset division is happy to stand with our peers in support of standard technology for removable memory devices that will result in much simpler interconnectivity,” said W.S. Lee, vice president, handset R&D planning, Telecommunication Network Business, Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.

Spansion

“Spansion, as the worldwide leader in pure-play Flash memory solutions, endorses the development of the versatile UFS bus,” said George Minassian, vice president of Strategic Planning and Systems Engineering, Wireless Solutions Division at Spansion. “It not only provides significantly higher bandwidth, but also supports low latency accesses and is positioned to provide an essential infrastructure in future mobile devices.”

STMicroelectronics

"STMicroelectronics’ Flash Memory Group has been a strong believer in this approach since the beginning of the storage experience and we’re pleased we can contribute to this important standardization activity. We think that this Universal Standard will cover the needs of the embedded and removable markets for many years," said Giuseppe Crisenza, NAND Flash Group General Manager.

Addiction Community Resource Site Now Provides Telephone Supplement for Those in Need, 24 Hours a Day, Seven Days a Week

Addicted.com, a website for addicts and their families to find support and recovery resources online, has announced a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week, toll-free number as an additional resource to addicts and their families.

The toll-free “LifeLine” number, 877-ADDICTED, enables people struggling with addiction or their families to reach a live, specially trained Addicted.com supervisor who can give advice and refer callers to centers near them that specialize in treating their specific addictions. The number has been added to the Addicted.com site as a way to expand upon the site’s accessibility to all of those in need.

“It is extremely gratifying to be able to add a toll-free, all-access number to our Addicted.com site,” said Addicted.com Founder and CEO John S. Shegerian. “We’ve worked hard to make Addicted.com a comprehensive place that people can visit from their computers, but we are also aware that there are those who may not have access to a computer who also need help. With that in mind we established our first-of-its-kind, free, 24-hour LifeLine. With more than 40 million addicts in the United States alone, there is an enormous population of individuals out there struggling with addiction who just need something like Addicted.com or our new LifeLine to kick-start their road to recovery.”

The Addicted.com site itself features a full slate of professional addiction experts that specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of common addictions including eating disorders, sexual addiction, gambling and drug and alcohol addiction. The site also offers people seeking help a proprietary Zip Code Locator which visitors can use to find nearby recovery centers, doctors, counselors and other assistance for their addictions.

Other features include AddictedTube, which allows visitors to view and share addiction-related videos. AddictedSpace is another valuable feature where members can share progress on recovery, ask for help, and share stories of addiction and rehabilitation.

The site is also the first of its kind to feature virtual tours of treatment facilities so that people struggling with addictions and their families and loved ones can get a sense of the treatment options available in advance.

Along with AddictedSpace and AddictedTube, visitors can take self-tests to help determine whether they have an addiction and may need to seek help. Articles, advice, experts and other resources give users the option of complete anonymity if they are seeking resources but aren’t ready to share their story with the world.

Addicted.com also features an online “Aftercare” program, designed to continue giving support to addicts after their treatment has ended.

Addicted.com provides addiction recovery resources and tools for addicts, family members and friends throughout the Internet community. The main goal of the site is to maintain a well-known online space for people to visit when they need advice, answers, assistance or just someone to talk with.

“It is a great help for busy families trying to keep track of immunizations on their children, as well as for federal enrollees that travel. They can access their personal health information 24 hours a day, seven days a week from anywhere in the world,” Bernatavitz explained.

Aetna PHR works in the background to improve health

Last year Aetna was the first to show its federal members physician-specific price information, clinical quality and efficiency data in selected markets. “Now we are arming our federal members with a powerful Personal Health Record that contains not only important data about their health, but actually works to help improve health,” said Bernatavitz.

Aetna’s PHR is powered by the ActiveHealth patented CareEngine system. In addition to providing a centralized record of member health history, current treatments and personal health data, Aetna’s PHR continuously scans the individual’s health data and claims information – such as physician office, lab, diagnostic treatment and prescriptions – then compares it against highly respected sources of medical literature. When appropriate, it will alert the individual and, in some cases, his or her doctors about possible urgent situations and opportunities to improve care. Members can further personalize the PHR with family health history, immunization records, allergies and emergency contacts.

Innovations help drive growth in Aetna plans

This year Aetna became the largest consumer-driven health plan in the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program with 26,000 members in its two Aetna HealthFund® plans – the Aetna HealthFund Consumer Driven Health Plan (Health Reimbursement Arrangement or HRA plan) and the Aetna HealthFund High Deductible Health Plan (Health Savings Account or HSA plan). Aetna introduced its HRA to federal enrollees in 2004 and the HSA in 2005. Both plans give federal members access to Aetna’s PPO networks and are currently available to enrollees in 37 states plus the District of Columbia. In 2008, these plans will be expanded to include Vermont.

Aetna is the fastest growing health plan in percentage growth across all federal plans for the past four years. In addition, in 2007 Aetna began offering its standalone dental PPO plan nationwide through the Federal Employee Dental and Vision Insurance Program.

“We’ve seen tremendous interest from federal enrollees in our plan designs, benefits and the availability of important information to help make informed health care decisions,” said Bernatavitz.

“The PHR is another example of how Aetna is offering federal workers more value for their health care dollar.”

New Partners Join Growing Program to Extend Applications from Kintera’s Open Technology Platform, Kintera Connect

Kintera® Inc. (NASDAQ:KNTA) today announced that technology providers in both the nonprofit and enterprise arenas continue to join the Kintera Connect Partner Program to develop and implement innovative solutions to help nonprofits bridge the gaps in their technology and business needs.

Recent additions to the Kintera Connect Partner Program include bswift, Masterworks, and CircleUp. Applications to be integrated with Kintera’s platform include software and services for human resources and benefits technology, advanced data analytics, and social communication services.

“Kintera’s open technology platform will give nonprofits more choices and provide solutions to enhance productivity and operational efficiency,” said Richard Gallun, chief executive officer for bswift, a provider of software and services to help organizations streamline HR, benefits, and payroll administration. “bswift’s menu of software and services is a natural complement to Kintera’s accounting application. Nonprofits will be able to use bswift’s smart, simple and savvy applications to save time and money on benefits and HR administration.”

“Because Kintera and Masterworks both serve Christian organizations and provide complementary products and services, the decision to join the program was simple,” said Lee Wilhite, senior vice president of client services for Masterworks, a full-service marketing and development agency serving Christian organizations. “With our analytics and Kintera’s Constituent Relationship Management (CRM) application reporting, nonprofits will be able to gather more detailed information on constituent behavior to enhance and tailor their marketing efforts to achieve greater results.”

In addition to bswift and Masterworks, CircleUp, a provider of social communication services for online and offline communities, has joined the Kintera Connect Partner Program. Today, when leaders ask a question or send a request to a group they get back a blizzard of e-mails that often include random answers, distractions and extraneous details that complicate and delay the information gathering, collaboration and decision-making process. CircleUp provides an easy way for organizers to communicate with groups or volunteers using e-mail or instant messaging, and receive a single, organized result that can be acted on immediately and shared with the group.

“CircleUp’s technology, when integrated with Kintera’s powerful platform, will provide nonprofits with a simple way to engage and communicate with supporters and volunteers,” said John Payne, chief executive officer for CircleUp. “Because CircleUp provides a centralized way to view responses, track who has and hasn’t responded, who has forwarded, as well as which recipients have taken action, it will make an excellent add-on to Kintera’s Friends Asking Friends Kintera Thon.”

“The Kintera Connect Partner Program is comprised of leading application partners in both the nonprofit and enterprise sectors,” said Steve Johnson, vice president of channels for Kintera. “The addition of partners such as bswift, Masterworks, and CircleUp empowers nonprofits to make technology choices that increase efficiency, encourage giving, and provide overall enhancements to the experiences of both constituents and employees.”

Built on Kintera Web services, the Kintera Connect platform enables application developers to integrate directly with Kintera technology. Such innovation provides nonprofits with solutions to address their unique challenges and the freedom to innovate. The Kintera Connect partner program currently includes well-known application providers such as TMA Resources, Campbell Rinker, Echopass, Jacobson Consulting, Solid Cactus, Razorsight and Quantrix.
