Module enables upgrade to 10 GBE using existing fiber
Opnext, Inc. (NASDAQ: OPXT), a global leader in state-of-the-art laser technology, today announced the release of another form-factor of its 10G LRM optical pluggable module family. This XENPAK module adds a second form-factor to the released LRM family. These modules offer very low power consumption, superior transmission characteristics and high temperature performance.
“LRM is an ideal solution for enterprise and campus networks which want to upgrade to a 10 Gigabit Ethernet network without installing new fiber plant,” stated Rich Zoccolillo, vice president of Opnext’s Pluggable Business Unit. “The addition of Electronic Dispersion Compensation (EDC) enables these modules to [be] used over existing Multi-Mode Fiber (MMF).”
Recent Ovum-RHK analysis found that LRM transceiver volume demand will grow at a CAGR of 90 percent from 2008 to 2011 (Assessment of the 10G Module Market, July 2007).
