Volantis Announces Support for Turkcell-im Mobile Internet Portal

Volantis, the world’s leading supplier of Intelligent Content Adaptation™ solutions for the Mobile Internet, today announced that Turkcell, the largest wireless carrier in Turkey, has launched its content portal using Volantis. The carrier’s Turkcell-im service allows subscribers access to a broad variety of mobile content via the Internet as well as through Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) sites.

Turkcell, the largest mobile communications operator in Turkey with 32.2 million subscribers (as of March 31, 2007), is working aggressively to expand the number of data users in its subscriber base. This program is designed to help Turkcell continue to increase wireless data usage. Turkcell has also seen a dramatic increase in service usage after the mobile portal launch:

* 622 million pages viewed
* 113 million news articles have been read
* 56 million visits
* 18 million mobile searches
* 6.5 million unique visitors
* 4.3 million content downloads. In seven months

Working with HP to supply Turkcell with a fully integrated and scaleable platform, Volantis offers wireless carriers a feature-rich, proven solution that is globally deployed and supports the delivery of high-quality content and services. The solution utilizes Volantis’ Mobile Content Framework™ content adaptation platform and Mobile Content Broker™ application to integrate third-party content from several external content providers and application service providers. Turkcell has also adopted Volantis’ XDIME* standards-based mark-up language that efficiently abstracts device issues from content and presentation in order to ensure delivery of optimized content to any device.

"We are thrilled with the interest Turkcell-im has captured during its first few months of deployment due to the superior customer experience that it provides,” said, Turkcell Chief Service & Product Development Officer Cenk Bayrakdar. “Volantis and HP have delivered a robust platform that allows us to offer our subscribers a wide variety of content and opens the door for an exciting opportunity to explore and discover new information and entertainment via their mobile devices.”

Turkcell-im has become a catalyst for the expansion of the mobile Internet. Volantis’ Framework, featuring the wireless industry’s largest database of more than 4,000 mobile devices, enables Turkcell subscribers to access the same content, optimized for each device, helping further the adoption of wireless data services.

“The success of Turkcell-im clearly demonstrates the value, interest and potential of a true mobile Internet experience,” said Mark Watson, Chief Executive Officer of Volantis. “Together with HP, we look forward to working with Turkcell to enable additional content and services for this visionary mobile services carrier.”
