Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc., today announced details of the United States Championship of the official 2007 Yu-Gi-Oh! video game tournament. Eight players selected from a nationwide online contest will compete at the Comic-Con International Consumer Expo in San Diego, Calif. on July 28th for the U.S. title. The top four duelists from the U.S. tournament will advance to the Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship, also at San Diego Comic Con on July 29th, for a chance to compete against the best players from around the globe and a shot at being crowned World Champion.
The U.S. Championship of the 2007 Yu-Gi-Oh! video game tournament will be conducted at meeting rooms 16 A/B on the Mezzanine Level at the San Diego Convention Center on July 28th, during the hours of 11 AM and 7 PM. Competitors will be using the Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship 2007 video game for the Nintendo DS™.
The game contains more than 1,600 cards to collect and new modes of play that let duelists hone their skills to perfection. Taking advantage of the wireless capabilities of the Nintendo DS, Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship 2007 features extensive support for online play through the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection service. Players who are in your friend list will be able to compete with others in online head-to-head play and can use voice chat to communicate with their opponent as they prepare to battle. Players will also be able to connect to the online service to download new cards as they become available for even more strategic deck building opportunities. The game will also boast extensive worldwide and local time online leader boards that will let the players download the virtual duelists to compete against.
“Yu-Gi-Oh! is one of Konami’s most recognized properties, and we are giving back to the game’s dedicated community with a tournament that lets players test their skills and meet other duelists from around the country,” said Wyman Jung, Associate Product Manager at Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. “The Comic-Con Expo in San Diego is the perfect venue for us to crown our U.S. and World finalists, letting them compete and take part in the Yu-Gi-Oh! festivities with duelists from all around the world.”
