VirTex Assembly Services, Inc., a manufacturer that provides turnkey solutions to technology companies, has received Managing Automation’s highest award for ‘leadership mastery.’
VirTex bested hundreds of other manufacturers in being recognized for the leadership it has displayed in the reduction of the use of environmentally unfriendly materials in electronics manufacturing.
“To be included with the likes of IBM, HP, Nissan, Avaya and Sun Microsystems is a tremendous honor,” said Brad Heath, CEO and founder of VirTex. “We’re proud of the fact that the industry recognizes the importance of reducing the use of hazardous materials in the manufacturing process and the role we have had in encouraging our clients to embrace green manufacturing principles.”
VirTex anticipates that by the end of the year the majority of its clients will have switched over to a lead-free manufacturing process, but it has been a long arduous process.
“We embraced the green manufacturing movement several years ago when the European Union passed the Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive (ROHS) in 2003,” said Heath. “Since then, we have held various regional and national seminars as well as informational meetings to advise our customers of the transformation and new regulatory requirements taking place in the industry as a whole, and specifically at VirTex.”
Speaking about the award recipients in general, David R. Brousell, Editor-in Chief of Managing Automation, said that “these companies exemplify the best in manufacturing. They are developing new ways of building products, bringing those products to market, and managing the relationships they need to succeed. They are masters of new ways of thinking about their companies, applying advanced technologies and achieving breakthroughs in the business of manufacturing.”
A panel of eight distinguished judges evaluated Progressive Manufacturing nominations from a record number of manufacturing companies this year, identifying 50 that have demonstrated significant mastery of one or more of the disciplines.
From the Progressive Manufacturing 50, the judges selected nine High Achievers, which had received the highest scores in each mastery category.
“We take pride in being recognized as a leader in embracing the green manufacturing process,” said Heath. “It has not only made economic sense for VirTex and its clients, but it is also the right thing to do.”
